Our Name

lion gate.jpgThe name Nehemiah Gateway is derived from the Hebrew Scriptures.

In the 5th century BC, after rebelling against the Babylonian empire, the Jewish nation was driven into exile and Jerusalem was destroyed. Nehemiah led his people in rebuilding Jerusalem and reclaiming their identity.

Walls and gateways reflect both a community’s ability to be secure, and its ability to allow entrance. Nehemiah’s twinned reconstruction effort, rebuilding infrastructure and rebuilding community, inspires our mission of helping troubled regions world-wide sustainably shape their own destinies.

Nehemiah Gateway’s proven approach, represented by our logo as a gateway, offers an entrance to a better and more sustainable life for communities in need.
