Amaro Tan Summer Camp

Amaro Tan Summer Camp

Sep 11, 2020

Every August, the Amaro Tan staff in Pogradec holds a 3 week summer day camp for students at the school, ages 4-16. Amaro Tan is a school for at-risk Roma, Balkan Egyptian, and Albanian children, and offers a wide range of humanitarian and social supports in addition to education. Summer camp extends the reach of those services, as well as giving the kids a chance to spend part of their summer having fun in a positive, supportive environment with their friends

.

Working around COVID-19 restrictions meant some changes to the camp this year. Because of limitations to group gatherings, only 30 children were able to participate. Priority was given based on need. Activities were held in small groups at three different sites-- at Amaro Tan, in a park by Lake Ohrid, and in Drilon village. The children were very happy to be together again, to be with their teachers, and to enjoy nutritious hot meals in the cafeteria.
